CROSSING WIRES
JARED SIMMS TALKS ABOUT MY FAVORITE ROBOT’S UPCOMING SHOWCASE
My Favorite Robot Records brings their Crossing Wires showcase to Coda (July 22) and Montreal’s Piknic Électronik (July 23). This tour also plays Miami’s 24-hour Heart club on July 8. It features Chloe from France, Toronto’s beloved Kenny Glasgow and My Favorite Robot’s Jared Simms and Voytek Korab.
“Crossing Wires reflects the artists from different worlds coming together [that form part of the label’s family] and that robots tend to have a lot of wires,” Simms laughs.
Chloe and Kenny Glasgow, who are both long-affiliated with My Favorite Robot Records, were a natural choice for the showcase. Simms is also happy to bring the two musical forces together in one showcase, which includes Chloe’s debut in Toronto.
“We’re really excited about bringing Chloe back to Canada and being in front of our own friends and family,” Simms says. “Touring the world is great but it can get pretty lonely. It will be really special for us.”
My Favorite Robot Records was recently nominated for DJ Mag’s Best North American Label. Given the Montreal-Toronto based label’s wide-ranging sound it is no surprise that the duo maintains its foothold in the electronic music industry (James Teej left the label a while ago when he relocated to Latin America).
“We have an open policy on what we like to play,” says Simms. “We never wanted to be a label that is pigeon-holed in sound.”
As for new releases on My Favorite Robot Records, a “Reuse” Remix by Timo Mass is slotted to come out on July 30.
