Frank Zappa & the Mothers played three legendary shows at the Roxy Theatre in Hollywood in December 1973. That audio formed his beloved 1974 album Roxy & Elsewhere, but like many of Frank’s performances these were also shot, on 16mm film, and locked away in THE VAULT — a giant trove of floor to ceiling stacks of unreleased recordings, films, and more by Frank that have been waiting like a time capsule under the Zappa family home since he died.

A couple years ago the Zappa Family Trust came across the Roxy footage, restored it, and released it as ROXY THE MOVIE in late 2015. Since, it’s become a huge fan favorite, but its first ever series of theatrical screenings will take place this month only, as fundraising events for filmmaker Alex Winter’s Who The F*@% is Frank Zappa — a campaign to preserve the unreleased footage and music in Zappa’s Vault, and use some of that content to craft the first all-access, no-stone-left-unturned documentary about Frank’s life.

Frank Zappa is one of the strangest, most amazing, prolific, and influential cultural icons of our era, but believe it or not, his complete story has never been told.
