THIN LEAR
A SHADOW WALTZED ITSELF
METROPOLITAN GROOVE MERCHANTS

New Jersey’s Matt Longo lies behind the moniker Thin Lear and his debut album Wooden Cave from 2020 grew some strong praise, yet it took him about four years to come up with another release, A Beach of Nightly Glory (2024), only to come up with another EP in under a year – A Shadow Waltzed Itself.
While you could loosely categorize his music within the singer songwriter genre, instead of just sparse backing and vocals, Longo obviously prefers a more detailed scope to his songs, that often include more complex yet subtle arrangements that complement his quite unique vocals so well.
When you take such a musical route, it usually does take time to come up with music that works, so it is no wonder Longo is taking his time to craft and release his music and that detailed process, by the evidence of the five songs here, has worked oh so well for Thin Lear.
