SCARLET WIVES – “SMOKING PISTOL”
LACKHAÜS RECORDS
Neon lights. Sweaty nights. Dreamy grungers and rock & rollers unite in this rock anthem.
Scarlet Wives are a self-proclaimed “apocalyptic fairy grunge rock” trio, with music that sucks us into their realm of fantasy and chaos. The Montreal-based rock/psych/pop/grunge group formed during the pandemic and wanted to bring a modern touch to their favourite old-school punk rock and riot grrrl sounds. If Iggy Pop and Hole had a baby in dystopia, it would be this band. Punk grunge princess Alice Slick (Vox, Guitar), local rock pioneer The Mosquito (Bass, Backing Vox) & leather bound actress/rocker Zenab Jaber (Drums, Guitar) are an unapologetic trio of empowering energy. Anthony Valmora of sister band The Sunset Drip also features as the drummer of this track. “Smoking Pistol” is sure to get stuck in your head, with Stooges-like guitar and Alice’s raging vocals chanting “Hate my job/Hate my life/Hate the system but I’m just a smoking pistol”. Scarlet Wives are ready to hit the stage/road and share their infectious sound with the world.
Artist Quote
“We just can’t wait to share that incredible energy with a crowd again. To see the open roads with just one goal in mind: to make it to the next show. Smoking Pistol is about having that drive, that fire that never burns out even if you feel like it’s buried away. Pre-covid we were working our a**sses off in bars and restaurants, and then jumping straight into the van to tour. The frustration and monotony were all worth it for that chance to play live music. So yeah. This song is for everyone out there, doing what they can to be able to strive for more and follow their passions. We’re so grateful to be able to do this, day in and day out.”
