LISTEN TO THE WOMACK SISTERS’ “YOU WENT AWAY TOO LONG” NOW
DAPTONE RECORDS
The latest single from the brightest new stars in the Daptone universe – R&B trio The Womack Sisters (BG, Zeimani, and Kucha Womack) release “You Went Away Too Long” today. The song opens with a dark herald of horns, orchestral chimes, and percussion groove, before shifting to the tender first verse: a melancholy longing of women who haven’t been able to forget. But real love and longing is not so simple. The mood turns when they launch into a haunting unison chorus dripping with the confidence of three women who refuse to wait too long for their due.
“This song holds a deep meaning that’s different for each of us,” explains the Sisters. “Imagine precious time stolen from your life, slipping away like sand through an hourglass, as your loved ones slowly forget the sound of your laughter. ‘You Went Away Too Long’ is a song about love and life interrupted.”
After joining forces with producer Gabriel Roth (aka Bosco Mann) and landing a slew of prominent bookings, it’s hard to imagine the Sisters will be waiting much longer.
“You Went Away Too Long” arrives after two stirring cuts released in the Fall of 2025. The Womacks’ debut single, “I Just Don’t Want You (To Say Goodbye)” is a deeply soulful ballad. Sisters Kucha and Zeimani’s plaintive background vocals and BG’s powerful lead come together like a harmonic bouquet in full bloom. The feel-good swing of “If You Want Me” is propelled by the percussive attack of the piano and hard-hitting call and response vocals, showcasing the Sisters’ uncompromising rawness and pop-sensible control in equal measure.
Kucha, Zeimani, and BG were singing before they could walk. Hailing from a soul music pedigree, they grew up on stages and in studios all over the world, singing behind their parents as well as their uncle, Bobby Womack. No matter where they called home—London, Thailand, Amsterdam, Kenya, West Virginia, the Bahamas—music and family were always a constant at the center of their lives. As they grew up, each with their own journeys and heartaches, they found their own voices and their own way.
Kucha, the youngest of the three, has a pure soulful tone, with a gritty sweetness—in stark contrast to her Curtis and Smokey influences. Zeimani’s voice is rich, full, and sultry, laced in rhythm and able to creep from a moan to a squall with silky smoothness. The power and range of eldest sister BG’s voice seems boundless. She has her grandfather – the iconic Sam Cooke’s – uncanny ability to move between the cleanest pop runs and the bluesiest gospel growls without compromising either. As a trio, their three distinct voices become one instrument, playfully trading leads and blossoming into perfectly blended harmonies as only sisters can.
In 2016, a mutual friend introduced the Sisters to Daptone co-owner and producer Gabriel Roth (aka Bosco Mann), who heard them sing and fell quickly and deeply in love with their voices. Soon after, they met up at Daptone’s Penrose Studios in Riverside, CA to cut their first 45 together, “If You Want Me” b/w “I Just Don’t Want You (To Say Goodbye).”
