“SCARP”
Höhn (also known as Eric Haynes, the keyboardist of neo-soul collective Busty and the Bass) is sharing his self-titled debut album, an exploration of how geography and nostalgia influence music.
Having dove into an improvisational environment where he could fuse harmonic concepts of jazz with idioms of techno music, Höhn brings something distinctly organic to electronic production through his exclusive use of field recording-based samples.
Höhn includes focus track, “Scarp,” a textured and searching electronic track which utilizes sounds recorded in Banff National Park, located near Haynes’ hometown of Calgary, Alberta.

“Each song is made using samples from only one location. The samples are manipulated and stretched to fit traditional electronic music roles, such as kick drums and synths.
The songs started with short descriptions, sketches, or even just colours that I remembered from the locations and wanted to portray in the music.
I want this album to encourage you to approach your everyday environments in the vein of John Cage, for whom “all sounds are music.”
