ABIGAIL HOPKINS
STARDUST
INDEPENDENT

Surviving a traumatic event, a serious illness, leaves heavy marks on both body and soul and is often something that is really hard to describe in words, let alone in music.
Yet, with her latest album Stardust, singer songwriter Abigail Hopkins was able to transform her traumatic experience of surviving bowel cancer into a quite sublime musical experience, which she wrote, played, sang, and produced (except one track) all by herself at home.
The illness has affected both her voice and instrumental skills, but she surmounts such harsh obstacles admirably here, adding an additional stark element in describing her experience. While at moments dark and harrowing, the whole album has that elemental beauty and hope that survival can bring to everybody’s life, and Hopkins was able to present her experiences quite vividly for all listeners. The album is a moving musical experience that at the same time raises awareness about a serious illness.
