AVERY FRIEDMAN
NEW THING
AUDIO ANTIHERO

Brooklyn seems to be a musical hotbed in recent years, with new, exciting artists cropping up by the day. Judging by New Thing, her debut album, you can add singer-songwriter Avery Friedman to that list. Inhabiting that not easily definable musical space inhabited by the likes of Big Thief (and Adrianne Lenker), CIAO MALZ and Florist, among some of the names that could fit there, Friedman has not only her fingers firmly on the pulse what sounds good to the current audiences, but is able to easily connect the dots between dream and bedroom pop, but to go folky at one moment and rockier the next without blinking or making a wrong sound.
And while she is aided here by James Chrisman of CIAO MALZ and Felix Walworth of Florist, this is surely Friedman’s show, with her songwriting showing signs of even greater achievements.
