VIDEO: “I DON’T WANT TO BREAK YOUR HEART” (DIR. BY MARTIN C PARISEAU)
Backed by reverb-drenched percussion and a sinewy but instantly hooky synth line, Béatrice Martin, aka Coeur de Pirate remains softly, but fiercely, defiant in the face of love. “I Don’t Want to Break Your Heart” is a thoughtful reflection on the dying embers of a relationship that once burned bright. Her ethereal and uniquely textured vocals run in dramatic counterpoint to a syncopated rap bridge courtesy of rising hip-hop sensation Allan Kingdom (Kanye West’s recent collaborator). Yet in spite of Martin’s heartbreak, this is the sound of someone looking bravely forward, refusing to live in what might have been.
The extremely cinematic music video for this song, directed by Martin Pariseau and starring Beatrice Martin herself alongside Allan Kingdom is up now on YouTube.
