More Brilliant Is The Hand That Throws The Coin
Massif Records
Seattle-born and Brooklyn-based artist Margaux has managed to gain major traction for her latest release More Brilliant is the Hand That Throws the Coin. The five-song EP goes on an internal, raw music journey that takes us through her struggles through crafty and intelligent use of lyricism and the instrumental environments she seems to build for each track.
For such a young age, she has managed to craft songs that are not just relatable to all, but manages to capture these private and troubled moments through her use of filmy musical aesthetics, folk, grunge, and poppy elements, and gifted soft vocal harmonies.
A standout moment is βPalmβ, a deep and intuitive track that really takes us to another place with its sublime use of atmospheric instrumental prowess and jazzy consonance in her vocal abilities.Β Itβs the highlight of this very beautifully-written EP because of how heavy it is lyrically, but manages to stay balanced with all the genres at play in one single track. βHot facedβ and βSmaller Homeβ also manage to stand out on More Brilliant is the Hand That Throws the Coin because of their uncommon eerie vocals and heavier grungy qualities in their instrumental delivery.
Overall, this is a very well-produced and amazingly-written EP for the young newcomer. With its movie like quality lyricism and magnificent use of musicianship from start to finish, itβs hard to not fall in love with this quirky and unique little EP.Β For fans that love jazzy-infused vocals with a twist of poppy and indie rock elements intertwined within the musical framework, then give this EP a little listen.
