J HACHA DE ZOLA – “EL CHUCHO (HOOKO)”
A Spill Exclusive Video Premiere
A standout track from J Hacha De Zola’s latest album Icaro Nouveau is “El Chucho (Hooko)”, a bit of a marching band type thing, according to Hacha De Zola. It’s an urban folk tale about a villain, the kind of guy who would cheat you, steal your girl, and stab you in the back. He’s also a silver tongued charmer. Every neighborhood barrio has a guy like this.
For the video, Hacha De Zola explains, “I love glitch art, an exciting art form where digital data is corrupted through the physical manipulation of electronic devices to produce errors or ‘glitches’ for aesthetic visual purposes. The result is distorted, mind bending, or even disturbing, imagery which is why this art form best fits this particular song.”
He continues, “So, I reached out to some of my most favorite ‘data mushers’ or ‘data benders,’ who quite graciously agreed to collaborate with me for this video. The art work and animations for this video was done by Euro-glitch artists Remy Joel and Denis Volnov. These guys had quite a body of work for me select, edit and modify from. I had a lot of fun with it!”
