JANE’S PARTY SHARE NEW DOUBLE SINGLE “REST OF OUR LIVES” & “RELIC OF THE TIMES”
INDEPENDENT
On June 2, Toronto indie outfit Jane’s Party shared their new single “Rest of Our Lives,” a driving, open-road rock tune that began as a sync pitch before evolving into something more expansive, personal, and fully realized. Originally written for Can-Am’s “On-Road” campaign, “Rest of Our Lives” is about open highways and forward momentum. After completing the commercial version, the band revisited the track, expanding the arrangement and re-recording key elements to transform it into a fully realized single.
“Although a lot of love had gone into writing and revising this version of the song, there was something that felt incomplete about it,” shares Jeff Giles. “I had been prompted by the endless road trip idea, but the song had me reflecting on my own pursuit of getting to the finish line while the day-to-day moments breezed by. Instead of constantly driving toward a final destination, I became interested in the idea of simply being present and finding wonder in the unknown.”
“Jeff’s song turned all of our heads when we first heard it,” shares Tom Ionescu. “We all had that ‘are you sure you want to use this for a commercial?’ reaction, usually reserved for original projects with the kind of promise that rallies everyone around a proper release. For me, the challenge was arranging and producing the song so it felt like a three-minute rock track rather than a jingle.”
Alongside “Rest of Our Lives,” the band also shares “Relic,” an acoustic-rock companion track produced with Justin Glasco in Los Angeles. Written by Devon Richardson and recorded with a collection of analog and vintage gear, the song takes a more reflective, character-driven approach, moving from a window-lit singer to a man buying DVDs to a politician “spouting his abuse,” building a meditation on time, culture, and what gets left behind.
“This song came to me around the time when they overturned Roe v. Wade in the States,” shares Richardson. “Everything just felt like we were heading in the wrong direction. Then I started thinking about anthropology and relics and fossils and how those things that stood so tall are now just dirt in the ground.”
The new tracks follow recent singles “Over You,” “Comfortable People,” and “Changes,” continuing a creative run for Jane’s Party. The Toronto band has amassed hundreds of sync placements across film, television, advertising, gaming, and digital media, while sharing stages with artists including Lord Huron, Arkells, Tokyo Police Club, LIGHTS, Manic Street Preachers, and Tom Odell.
