def sera has shifted their sound from atmospheric beats in favour of something more distorted, or even punishing. A knocking kick drum keeps the pace going for a chainsaw-esque bass line, which is momentarily interrupted by a heavy half-time section of metalcore guitars and tempo.
Themes of despair and emotional dependency are sprinkled throughout Sera’s lyrics. Ever-evolving hooks show their palpability over atmospheric textures, EDM drops, and brutal breakdowns.
It first debuted live as an unreleased track while on their EU tour, opening for ETIC, where it delivered controlled chaos amongst a wave of electroclash beats.
A recent surge in online buzz has been fuelled by recurring placements on iconic Spotify editorials such as hyperpop and Proto-, as well as from being featured on Pitchfork’s Hyperclash playlist, part of their article on the budding electronic/ indie sleaze crossover scene.
def sera is an electronic music project launched from Montreal, Canada by Sera London and occasional collaborators. They are known for non-traditional releases such as “White Widow”, and for working with artists Adamn Killa, DJmegan23, k0d4m4, brody and Oatmilkandcodeine. Lately, they have made waves while on their EU tour and have been heavily featured on editorial playlists such as hyperpop and hyp3r.wav
