Prepare to sink your teeth into Fake Shark’s exceptional album, Afterglow. There is nothing fake about these Canadian-born gents; they are killers. This album oozes a generous blend of alternative and post-punk appeal, and it is just that β appealing. With chart-topping tracks such as βLoserβ and βSave Meβ, Fake Shark has what seems like a notorious reputation when it comes to their place in the Indie Award recognition scene. This album has it.
Afterglow opens with βKinda Like Itβ featuring The OBGMs; it’s fire! Again, uniquely placed instrumental interludes including βDissolveβ and βUndertow Afterglowβ are perfectly placed, resetting the album’s trajectory. As mentioned earlier, βSave Meβ is spicy and well-placed as a chart-topper, but “Paranoid ” stands out. Each track holds its own, eliciting a tantalising toe-tapping trip. It’s short, concise, at just over 37 minutes of play and 13 solid tracks; each track rolls into the next on an enjoyable journey, with complex topics covered, which all alternative junkies crave.
Afterglow by Fake Shark will make you froth. It’s fierce and fearless; it feels like an alternative revival. Fake Shark is touring extensively across Canada. Be quick; tickets are hot, and with several shows already sold out, hopefully a trip down under is on the cards!
