SPILL ALBUM REVIEW: ANN WILSON & TRIPSITTER – CONSECRATED GROUND

Ann Wilson

ANN WILSON & TRIPSITTER
CONSECRATED GROUND
LABEL LOGIC

There comes a point in a rock legend’s career when the temptation is to look backwards—to revisit the songs, sounds, and moments that made the artist famous. Ann Wilson has never seemed particularly interested in taking the easy road. On Consecrated Ground, streaming October 9, 2026, her second album with Tripsitter, she instead looks straight ahead, delivering nine tracks that feel restless, gritty and remarkably alive.

From the opening defiance of “I Will Not Be Coming Back,” Wilson makes it clear this is not a nostalgia trip. The track’s heavy guitars and psychedelic edges provide a fitting launchpad for an album that moves comfortably between hard rock, blues, atmospheric textures and more introspective passages.

There is an unmistakable emotional weight beneath the volume. “Bone Pain” is particularly raw, while “Hard Fought” carries the scars of experience without surrendering to them. “Me and Comanche” shifts gears, offering a more mysterious, story-driven moment, while “Hot Foot” injects the record with swagger and good old-fashioned rock ’n’ roll attitude.

Wilson’s voice remains the album’s gravitational centre. What makes her performance so compelling is not simply the power she has always possessed, but the way she uses it. There is grit, vulnerability and authority in equal measure, with Tripsitter providing a muscular backdrop that gives her room to push, pull and occasionally disappear into the atmosphere.

The album’s final stretch – “Dissonance,” “Renaissance Kids,” and “Reverse Chaos”—becomes increasingly searching, giving Consecrated Ground a sense of movement rather than simply a collection of songs.

Nearly six decades into her career, Wilson isn’t trying to recreate the past. She’s proving there are still places she hasn’t been – and sounds she hasn’t finished exploring. Consecrated Ground is the kind of album that makes you reach for the volume knob rather than your phone. Put it on, turn it up and let that extraordinary voice wash over you. Then ask yourself how many singers could make you believe, even for a moment, that one human voice could sound like an entire band.
