ALEX ORTIZ (WE ARE WOLVES) ANNOUNCES SOLO PROJECT RIP POP MUTANT + SHARES FIRST SINGLE “PARFOIS” VIA SIMONE RECORDS
DEBUT LP FLUXUS POP OUT APRIL 8
RIP Pop Mutant today announces the release of their debut LP Fluxus Pop set for release April 8th 2022. RIP Pop Mutant is the solo project of We are Wolves’ Alex Ortiz. The first single, “Parfois”, is available today on all music services.
The video for “Parfois” is directed by Brad Aitso. Speaking on the video Aitso says “the video combines the modern dance of Julia Daigle with ancient video processing techniques to create a ghostly dream world, inhabited by Rip Pop Mutant. Aitso combines hand modified analog video processors, and video delay to create a pop take on experimental video.”
With the help of Adrian Popovich (ex-Tricky Woo), Alex Ortiz created the album Fluxus Pop from scratch. With influences ranging from Suicide, Deja Voodoo, The Cramps, and Velvet Underground, the punk rocker, whose roots are in Colombia, maintains a love-hate relationship with pop. For his first solo project, the pop is tampered with, crushed, chopped up, and spat out in a cold-wave/new-wave/post-punk jumble that is practically sweet enough to give you cavities.
RIP Pop Mutant is the first real solo project of Alex Ortiz who co-founded the electro-punk group We Are Wolves in 2000. Since then, the band has released five albums and several EPs and singles, along with performing hundreds of times alongside International Noise Conspiracy, …And You Will Know Us By The Trail Of Dead, Death From Above 1979, Bloc Party, Gorillaz, and Indochine.
Fluxus Pop will be available everywhere starting April 8, 2022.
