ABIGAIL LAPELL SHARES NEW SINGLE “MOUNTAIN” AHEAD OF DELUXE EDITION OF STOLEN TIME LP
OUTSIDE MUSIC
Toronto songwriter Abigail Lapell returns with the deluxe edition of Stolen Time, her elemental and evocative new album. Since its launch in April 2022, the collection has earned praise from a number of major publications, and through it, Abigail has been nominated for English Songwriter of the Year at the 2023 Canadian Folk Music Awards. The deluxe release features four additional tracks, performed by Lapell and recorded by producer Howard Bilerman at Montreal’s hotel2tango.
Today, Lapell shares “Mountain”, the second advance single from the Stolen Time Deluxe LP. A miniaturist walking-tempo tune, “Mountain” is performed on electric guitar, vocals and harmonica. Its singsong lyrics find the narrator “walking up the mountain” in search of new heights and an elusive sense of freedom. Ultimately, the song is about persevering in the face of crushing setbacks and obstacles both real and imagined.
Previously the award winning songwriter shared “Blinding lights”, a stripped-down acoustic rendition of the hit song by fellow Torontonian The Weeknd. Performed by Lapell on acoustic guitar, piano and vocals, the song dives into themes of longing, addiction and co-dependency set to a propulsive riff.
Stolen Time feels unhurried, psychedelic and otherworldly. An eclectic cast of musicians underscores the power of Lapell’s vocals on songs that range from solo guitar or piano ballads to 70s folk-rock arrangements featuring bass, drums, horns, strings and steel.
Over the past five years and three spellbinding releases, Lapell has garnered two Canadian Folk Music Awards and a staggering 25+ million streams while touring widely across North America.
More About Abigail Lapell
Over the past decade and three spellbinding albums, Lapell has garnered two Canadian Folk Music Awards (English Songwriter of the Year in 2020 and Contemporary Album of the Year in 2017), hit number one on Canadian folk radio, and accrued a staggering 13 million+ Spotify streams while touring widely across Canada, the U.S., and Europe.
Her latest LP, Stolen Time, out now via Outside Music, strikes a fine balance between her hushed acoustic debut, Great Survivor, and her two rockier, Chris Stringer produced records, Hide Nor Hair and Getaway. Stolen Time brings a live-off-the-floor 70s folk-rock vibe with more structural experimentation to the table on songs that feel expansive in their scope; unhurried, psychedelic, and other-worldly
