Brown Acid: The Twelfth Trip
RidingEasy Records
How long can these people have this going on? Wasn’t the Brown Acid compilation(s) just a one or a few volumes thing? Or maybe it was a gimmick?
Whatever the thing is, we’re now up to the twelfth volume of the Riding Easy Records Brown Acid series that collects obscure singles that have anything to do with heavy psych, proto-hard rock or proto-metal/stoner genres.
The problem is, how can they keep coming up with much better than average selection every single time they put one of these out? After, all, isn’t this well, going to dry up at some point? Or aren’t the people making these selections going to get sloppy at some point and start putting out comps that have only a few gems with the rest being true duds?
Well, there’s no answer to those question to be found with The Twelfth Trip. Again, this is an excellent selection, with not that many clicks and pops to be found, or the compilers were diligent enough to track down as many original master tapes as it was humanly possible. But we do tend to forget that at the time these were recorded there was no possibility for online search, no streaming, no file archives, so the achievement of having 12 high-quality comps (so far) is quite formidable.
With all the wonderment, about how this was done, there is only one thing left to do. Enjoy.
