Teenage Bottlerocket
So Dumb/So Stoked
Pirates Press Records
Teenage Bottlerocket’s new EP, So Dumb, isn’t exactly my personal favorite. The tracks lack a bit of structural complexity, and the overall delivery could be described as somewhat monotone, sticking to a consistent beat throughout.
Upon listening to the EP, the title So Dumb seems fitting, as it reflects a sense of simplicity in their approach. At first, I noticed a resemblance to Blink 182, which may suggest an influence or inspiration. The songs tend to repeat themselves, which might be a stylistic choice.
Interestingly, there’s a nostalgic charm to their sound, evoking memories of soundtracks from 2000s coming of age movies. This sense of nostalgia could appeal to listeners who appreciate that era’s music.
While the EP has its merits, I personally find it feels somewhat underwhelming, lacking the same impact as their older material. It didn’t quite reach the same heights as their earlier releases, leaving me with a sense of mild disappointment.
