REPEATED VIEWING
BREAK THE FAITH
LIBRARY OF THE OCCULT RECORDS

Alan Sinclair has been making fascinating, 80s style music under the name Repeated Viewing since 2009. Break The Faith is his latest release and once again he has produced an incredible album full of 1980 sounds and styles all mixed in to form his own distinct dark music. Mixing in the odd narrative, Sinclair has produced an album that is both chilling and embracing. Break The Faith is a brilliant journey into musical darkness.
In some ways, Break The Faith sounds a bit like if Paul Hardcastle joined Cabaret Voltaire and they created a soundtrack for a 1980s horror film. Throw in a little of John Carpenter’s music and you really have a good idea about Break The Faith. However, it is made clear that Sinclair’s music is original and his sound is entirely his own. These eight tracks, with titles such as “Flying Ointment” and “Summon The Ghoul,” are as much fun as they are moody and dark.
“Flying Ointment,” for example, is an energetic synthpop style tune, while “Lurch the Letch” is an epic lengthy number with strong production and great, older-styled effects as the song plays. The song has an urgency and pounding beat that drives the song with nicely layered effects throughout. The opening, title track, “Break The Faith” has some talking dropped in to give the song a little bit of context, and it works.
Break The Faith is a step back into time with an imaginary soundtrack. The music creates an atmosphere and transports you to another time and place. It is dark synthpop without losing any sense of humour or the human element. Although instrumental, there is a lot going on each song, certainly enough to keep the listener’s interest.
