GOSPELBEACH
WIGGLE YOUR FINGERS
CURATION RECORDS
Gospelbeach is a band out of Los Angeles. Wiggle Your Fingers is an incredibly well-produced and well-written album that is full of strong melodies, fantastic lyrics, and spirit. Although they are influenced by older L.A. bands, this album is not nostalgic, but rather very current and quite original. This is rock, pop, hard rock, and a lot of other music all rolled up into one album. GospelbeacH has, over the years, created their own distinct sound and it is brilliant.
The music is full of fun and energy, but lyrically, it is a different matter. The album opens with the incredibly catchy βNothinβ But A Foolβ. Rademakerβs vocals are fantastic, and he does not get near enough credit for his emotive voice. Later, the band trades southern California rock for gospel-tinged blues with βIβll Close My Eyesβ. Again, they execute the sound and the vibe perfectly.
Much of the album is straight ahead pop/rock with a great deal of California sound. But, like Tom Petty or Fleetwood Mac, that style and sound do not completely define the band. There are a lot of influences and a great many styles and bands, as such there is a great deal of variety throughout the entire album. Songs like the wonderful βYork Blvd.β is country-psychedelic and it packs a punch in its two and a half mins. It is the only song on the album that Rademaker co-wrote, along with Michael Locatelli, who helped with the lyrics). βYouβre The One (Frozen Burrito # 2)β demonstrates their ability to tap into their soulful sound. And βHang Timeβ is a brilliant heavy rocker, again with great lyrics.
There is a lot to enjoy on Wiggle Your Fingers. This is a tight band but they do have some outside help with some of the songs. It is the kind of album that as soon as it ends, you want to flip it over to side one to start all over again. GospelbeacH has a very distinct and original sound. The music is produced and arranged well, and the songs are top notch. The harmonies in combination with the music results in the summer album of the year. This is the perfect soundtrack for the entire summer and with the variety of styles/genres, there is not a chance the listener will ever get bored of the album. GospelbeacH has come up with the album they were meant to create.
