Beach Skulls
Las Dunas
PNKSLM (Punk Slime Recordings)
From start to finish, Beach Skulls new album Las Dunas is a mellow, psychedelic masterpiece. You can guess by looking at the album title that it means βthe dunesβ when translated to English, and is a reference to the beach. The band happens to be from gloomy Manchester, but is highly influenced by the coast. Although this album does not fit the standards of typical beach music, the salt water feel is evident.
One song that stands out from the rest is βCome Undone.β It has a blatant indie rock influence, whilst the other songs are more laid back. βSoma Holidayβ and βInterludeβ are both solely instrumental but make the album seem whole. The closing song, βNo Worries,β lives up to its name. The gentle guitar and lyrics are soothing.
Overall, this was an excellent album. I enjoyed the calming tone and feeling. I could see myself listening to it to calm down when stressed. Considering that it took less time to work on than the first album, Las Dunas is a very impressive sophomore album.
