SPILL ALBUM REVIEW: 16VOLT – NEGATIVE ON ARRIVALS

16Volt

16VOLT
NEGATIVE ON ARRIVALS
METROPOLIS RECORDS

16Volt’s Negative On Arrivals is a curated sonic journey featuring nine standout tracks cherry-picked from The Negative Space and Dead on Arrivals. Renowned for its robust industrial rock foundation, 16Volt transcends genre boundaries, offering a diverse auditory palette that caters to a broad audience; this collection is a testament to that versatility. Eric Powell, the mastermind behind the band, his formidable talent, hinting at the anticipated dynamism of their upcoming 2024 album.

This compilation encapsulates the essence of 16Volt’s sound and serves as a prelude to the innovative directions Powell’s music will explore. Negative On Arrivals opens with some fierce industrial grade instrumentals on “For Violence With You”, typical of the genre; however, alluring and gentle undertones are reflective of Deftones, as does “The Lamb”, an equally phenomenal track. “The Mission” is incredible, a sick tune and a definite standout. Heavy industrial and cleverly poppy drum lines and guitar riffs offset the calm vocals. This track demonstrates the artist’s ability to move between alternative, industrial, and hardcore. So, kudos for opening to a greater demographic. It’s like coffee at a perfume counter for eclectic listeners like me.

Gliding along the playlist, the journey proved surprisingly smoother than anticipated. “The Greatest Worst Thing Ever” emerges as a pure lyrical treasure, its alternative vibes bleeding through with an almost tangible melancholy. I believe it’s the jewel of the album, a delightful gem that stands out in its raw and passionate delivery.

Set to drop a fresh album in the twilight of 2024, Eric Powell is gearing up to unleash a sonic boom that’s bound to echo through the halls of music history. With 16Volt’s signature blend of gritty industrial vibes and poetic finesse, this release promises to be a cross-genre sensation, captivating listeners from all walks of life. Expectations are high, but if history indicates, this album won’t just meet them—it’ll crank the volume up to 11 and blow them out of the water!

About the Author
Victoria Love-Rainbow
I am an avid connoisseur of music experiences but never had the courage to share them until now. My inspiration comes from the '90s alternative and punk rock music I grew up listening to. Bands like The Smashing Pumpkins, Silverchair, Eve 6 and Everclear shaped my worldview and taste in music. I want to capture some of their energy and spirit in my stories. Thanks for checking out my bio and my work!
