MOBY
FUTURE QUIET
BMG

Future Quiet stands out as the finest album of the year so far, despite it only being February. This release is a breathtaking, ethereal masterpiece that seamlessly blends symphonic elegance with the signature melancholy mixes that Moby is renowned for. The album distinguishes itself from Moby’s previous work, feeling like an extension of his cautionary storytelling, exploring themes of devastating endings and the cyclical nature of life.
Each track transitions smoothly into the next, creating a sense of completeness and continuity, much like waves. The emotional depth is palpable, with the album evoking feelings akin to a terminal struggle. The piano’s integration is especially dynamic, maintaining an impressive tempo alongside the shimmering violin. Instrumentals dominate, with vocals appearing only when they can add value. The standout track, “This Was Never Meant for Us,” shines with brilliance and leaves a lasting impression. The anticipation for its release is high, as it is both haunting and captivating—a potential new favourite for me.
This album will likely appeal to longstanding fans of Moby, particularly those familiar with his artistic development. Individuals who appreciated Nick Cave’s This Much I Know to be True documentary may also find the record’s depth and emotion noteworthy. Regardless of one’s opinion of Moby, this release demonstrates his creative abilities and has the potential to engage a broad audience.
