THE IMPLIERS – COCOON
A SPILL EXCLUSIVE ALBUM PREMIERE
The Impliers are the psychedelic and alternative rock duo who take familiar instruments and make them unfamiliar. They use oddly tuned guitars and add texture with synth sounds and artful soundscapes. Their new album, Cocoon, is an eclectic collection that defies genres, yet exhibits a signature sound as it winds through indie-folk, synth-pop, ethereal electro-pop, dream-pop, grimy distorted indie rock, cinematic almost-western soundscapes, industrial pop, piano balladry, and dark wave. Thematically, the pair explore heavy topics, like mental health mortality, relationships, and love, with abstract yet vulnerable poeticism. Cocoon explores the human condition in all its complexities in an honest manner. Their vulnerability is clear and refreshing. While Cocoon is the Impliers first record, it is composed of parts 3-5 of a broader narrative universe that will be released across multiple albums over the next several years.
ARTIST QUOTE
“Cocoon was a really big, ambitious idea for the 2 of us from the start, considering it was a concept album, and that there was so much musical and visual ground we wanted to cover. Our love of music spans a very broad spectrum, and we’ve always been big fans of extremely layered, powerful music that offers more than what’s on the surface lyrically, musically, and structurally. We kinda decided if we were going to do this thing, we would go all in early and put in a ton of effort on making sure the songs and the album were both cohesive standalone or together, with as much dimension as possible in the layering of vocal harmonies, dueling instruments, rhythms, and stories. There really is a lot for you to find on multiple listens that we hope create fun puzzle-like connections for you, and if you check out our social media, we think you will find that some of the concepts go even deeper in other channels. We feel really proud to have people spend time listening to our music and connecting with it, and we’re really excited to share the next chapters of our universe.” ~Dan and Charles
Cocoon is full of wormholes and mysteries. This album represents a lot to us.
