JUNO-nominated singer-songwriter Desiree Dorion unveiled her seventh studio album, Remember Your Name in the Fall of 2024, stepping beyond her signature Country roots to explore the rich and soulful landscapes of Roots/Americana. Blending vulnerability, strength, and personal growth into every lyric, Dorion’s latest project marks a bold evolution in her musical journey, finding a new sonic home that compliments her artistry. Her heartfelt storytelling has earned widespread recognition across major Canadian media, including The Morning Show, Breakfast Television, eTalk, Global News Toronto, APTN, and CTV News. Her music continues to resonate on CBC Radio, SiriusXM, and Canada’s National Campus and Community Radio Charts, where her most recent album spent 11 weeks landing multiple #1 spots. With songs landing on the Canadian Country Music Top 100 Charts (TRAX) and hitting #1 on the Indigenous Music Countdown, Dorion’s music has reached all corners of Canada. A four time Manitoba Country Music Award (MCMA) winner with nine career nominations, Dorion’s sixth studio album, That’s How I Know, has been streamed over 500,000 times and debuted at #3 on iTunes Canada. Offstage, Dorion is mother, lawyer, and advocate for Indigenous communities. She has lent her voice to initiatives like the Achimotak series in partnership with the Canadian Country Music Association, served as an ambassador for the Downie Wenjack Foundation, and mentored emerging artists through the National Music Centre’s OHSOTO’KINO Music Incubator Program. Recently spotlighted on APTN’s Face to Face and a contributor to a national CBC discussion on representation in Country music. Dorion’s first single of 2025, “Dry”, is a gripping ode to the way people treat one another in close relationships, inspired by the Anishinaabe teaching on the need to respect water. “Dry” was just released on Friday, January 17 2025.
“Dry” was written by Desiree Dorion, Jay Allen, and Olivia Mae Graham, and features background vocals by Lacey Hill. The song was produced by Joel Schwartz.
About “Dry”
Weaving a lyrical thread between the concept of mistreatment of water and the way we treat those closest to us, Desiree Dorion’s “Dry” draws a remarkably thought provoking picture of carelessness in relationships. Inspired by a sharing circle at an Anishinaabe law course which introduced the concept of types of water and the fundamental principle of respect, Dorion’s “Dry” is the result of comparing the importance of the way the precious resource is treated, to the way those in relationships treat one another. Atmospheric and foreboding, “Dry” showcases Dorion’s incredible vocal control as she moves from an almost whisper to the strength of her full voice, gliding across the intentionally sparse instrumentation of the track. The full bodied chorus captures the paradox that is both sustaining and draining. With Dorion’s exceptional songwriting on full display, “Dry” is a remarkable allusion to the desire for love amid a glaring inability to quench the subjects’ emotional thirst.
