CHARLES MANSION – DEMONSTRATIONS
A SPILL EXCLUSIVE ALBUM PREMIERE
Charles Mansion is a 4 piece bluesy psych/stoner rock band based in Vancouver BC. Originally formed in Kelowna BC, aka Canada’s desert, the band taps into the roots of Californiaβs Palm Desert flavor and mixes it with some psych, fuzz and a bit of grunge. Not content to merely draw influence from afar, the band cofounded a music festival called Tune It Down Turn It Up which is in its 5th year and showcases the best psych, fuzz, doom and stoner music that BC has to offer. They promptly recruited the legendary Dave Catching (Queens of the Stone Age, Eagles of Death Metal and more) to attend the fest and host some recording sessions in the first year. Catching has been a friend, MC and attendee of the fest since, and is gradually bringing his fellow desert rock friends along with him. Itβs obvious that the guys live and breathe the music that they love and theyβve been fortunate enough to open for some psych rock heavyweights including Earthless and Sleepy Sun.
In between all of that, Charles Mansion has done some recording too. Their first EP Death by Misadventure included 4 originals and a unique cover of “Horse With No Name”. it was recorded live off the floor in a lumber warehouse, which offered some acoustics and reverb that are tough to come by naturally. Their follow up EP Demonstrations was recorded in the same fashion but alas, it was lost when the engineer moved away and we lost touch. 6 original songs, gone. But then, one glorious day, the bands bass player discovered they had been on his computer this entire time. So, better late than never, Charles Mansions DemonstrationsΒ is seeing the light of day. Itβs not mastered and is a little rough around the edges but to quote the late, great Olβ Dirty Bastardβ¦ βOh baby, I like it rawβ
