Diana Panton
A Cheerful Little Earful
Little Things
There is absolutely nothing not to like about this album. Canadian Diana Panton sings to me that Iβm adorable any time at all. This girl has such a voice, jazz trained and as sweet as honey pie.
Although it has a childrenβs market in mind, it has so many classic memories all wrapped up in a bow. Beginning with βHappy Talkβ, it was very much a walk through my own childhood, and I can be a sucker for nostalgia. Panton sings that we should listen with our eyes as we sing a rainbow, and she brought me much pleasure in my listening.
The tracks are simply accompanied, very often a piano melting into Pantonβs voice, a simple melody with crystal clear vocals. I wondered at times if I detected a touch of ragtime in the mix, each track is mixed quite well and for the most part it felt as though I was sitting with her in the room.
To finish off, I once had a discussion with a theatre-loving friend about why childrenβs theatre was somehow looked down upon. If this is music for little children, and I am reviewing this with that audience in mind, there is so much for me as an adult to love as well.
Essentially, this is a very, very good collection of timeless tunes.
