Empire State songwriter Charlie DeCarlo continues rising towards indie stardom on his latest single “The Chase” β a storming folk pop forecast that recalls Neutral Milk Hotel, The Decemberists, and Blind Pilot. Premiering today, it’s the second breath taken from the Buffalo-based musician’s high flying debut album Paper Birds, which shines with an undeniable sense of wonder and scenic exploration. “I wrote ‘The Chase’ about a person who’s lost in a world of uncertainty. The character reflects on the choices he made throughout his life and begins asking the existential question, “Is it all a give, or is it all a take?” This song is a piece to an overall story about two people falling in love in a changing world, and ‘The Chase’ is the point in which the relationship comes to an end. The character feels cheated and upset about losing something he’s built his life around.”
