Southern California’s Mothlight is known for soaring harmonies, visual lyricism, and intrinsic composition.Β Their latest record, “Laika” – due out May 5th, 2017 is a a whirlwind of vibrant melodies — providing an out of body experience and delivering audiences to another realm.Β Named after the first animal to orbit Earth, “Laika” evolves into an experimental and curious work describing mind expansion with grandeur and purpose. The album’s second single has taken on a new face and entered into different realms. The upbeat and bouncy original has turned into a brilliantly slowed down thumper. Neza’s hip hop verses add a whole new life to the song, while Hands wide open production and heavy 808s breathe new meaning into the song. The new version gives “Monarch” an interesting new spin but still adheres to the textural and dreamy vibe of the original.
Quote
“The urgent, enlightened words spat over Handsβ production make this remix entirely its own animal. Their feral delivery counters the downplayed ambience of [Mothlight’s] singing, changing the dynamics of the song into something striking and memorable.Β Even after becoming so far removed from its original approach, βMonarchβ still provides the pleasing aesthetic Mothlight have down to a science. The reimaginations provided by Hands and Neza Alexander take nothing from the song’s beauty. ” ~Β Max Heilman / Culture Collide
