AMY MILLAN TEAMS UP WITH THE ACCLAIMED MARTHA WAINWRIGHT TO RELEASE “CALLING ALL ANGELS” | A COVER OF A JANE SIBERRY ORIGINAL FEATURING K.D. LANG
LAST GANG RECORDS
Amy Millan combines her vast musical prowess with another acclaimed, legendary voice in Martha Wainwright, with the release of “Calling All Angels” today. The song, originally released in 1991, was the work of two other Canadian music icons, Jane Siberry and k.d. lang. That version appeared in the film Until the End of the World, and on Siberry’s 1993 studio album, When I Was a Boy. It was also featured in the film and on the soundtrack of Pay It Forward, in Roswell, Charmed, and the 2021 film The Many Saints of Newark.
Millan + Wainwright just wrapped up a theatre tour in Quebec. That tour coincided with the 20th anniversary of Wainwright’s self-titled, seminal album and her recent Grammy win for her writing, vocal and production contributions to Carla Patullo’s album, NOMADICA. Millan is currently touring North American tour with Stars as a part of the All The Feelings Tour with Broken Social Scene and Metric. All dates are HERE.
“When I moved to Montreal as a young student with my first guitar, being in the orbit of the loft parties and folk houses is where I first heard Martha and her distinct, powerful and now iconic voice,” says Amy. “Grateful to call her a dear friend, I always wanted to find a way for us to sing together. This Canadian gem of a song by the great Jane Siberry (originally sung with k.d. lang) was the perfect beginning for us to get this gentle chance to convene with angels.”
Millan also celebrates surpassing the 1 year calendar milestone of releasing her first solo work in almost 16 years with her gorgeous album, I Went To Find You which debuted last spring (May 30, 2025) via Last Gang Records. I Went To Find You (Redux) treating some of the LP’s original singles to more acoustic interpretations, followed last fall.
I Went To Find You emerged from the kind of once-in-a-lifetime serendipity that alters our experience of the world. After crossing paths with award-winning musician/composer Jay McCarrol in fall 2023, the Montreal-based singer/songwriter felt a sense of musical communion reminiscent of the elation she’d first accessed in singing with her father as a little girl—a connection severed when her dad was killed in a car accident just before her fifth birthday.
As she began creating songs with McCarrol, Millan slowly realized that an unconscious desire to sustain that feeling had informed her lifelong devotion to music and her many cherished collaborations over the years, including her work as co-vocalist/guitarist of beloved indie-pop band Stars and a satellite member of iconic collective, Broken Social Scene.
I Went To Find You was co-written and produced by Jay McCarrol (award-winning musician/composer known for the critically acclaimed 2023 film BlackBerry and 2025 SXSW standout and TIFF 2025 ‘Peoples Choice Midnight Madness’ Award winner, Nirvanna the Band the Show the Movie), engineered by Jace Lasek (Godspeed You! Black Emperor, Wolf Parade), mixed in part by Peter Katis (The National, Interpol), and recorded at Lost River (an idyllic studio deep in the Laurentian forest).
