TAV FALCO – “SUGAR MAMA BLUES”
A Spill Exclusive Music Premiere
A standard during the Great Depression, “Sugar Mama Blues” was originally popularized by Chicago bluesman Tampa Red in 1934. In subsequent years, music icons ranging from Howlin’ Wolf to Led Zeppelin have put their own spin on the track. “Sugar Mama Blues” now gets a new lease on life as a featured track on Cabaret of Daggers, the latest album from primal rock ‘n’ roll raconteur Tav Falco. Alongside legendary Memphis singer/songwriter Alex Chilton (The Box Tops, Big Star), Falco formed his long-running band Tav Falco’s Panther Burns at the tail-end of the 1970s. Chilton stopped touring with Panther Burns in 1984 but Falco stayed the course and has released dozens of passionately idiosyncratic records and toured the world multiple times. Recorded earlier this year in Rome, Cabaret of Daggers features newly-penned Falco originals which question the sanity of our troubled times, alongside carefully-curated selections from over 80 years of the Great American Songbook. Released by ORG Music, the album will initially be available as a limited edition, yellow colored vinyl pressing of 750 copies worldwide, exclusively for Record Store Day / Black Friday, November 23. The standard black vinyl edition and digital download follow on November 30. Black vinyl and download will be available for purchase at https://www.orgmusic.com.
