NXNE 2024 – LTTHEMONK
@ THE SMITH HOUSE BAR, TORONTO
JUNE 12, 2024
LTtheMonk took the stage on a slow night upstairs at The Smith House Bar. The venue was the home of various technical difficulties and glitches throughout the night, leaving the audience feeling exhausted. However, Monk took it upon himself to bring spirits back up. Throughout his intense 40-min set, Monk danced around in his socks and brought an enormous amount of funk to the building. In an interview after the show he explained, “When there’s a smaller crowd you have to get the energy going as much as you can to really lead people along. The space is all about comfort and no judgement.” On the socks, he said, “I grew up dancing in my socks, so I have to recreate that on stage for that pure energy. I want to make sure that the environment is very safe and inclusive.” It was obvious the intimate setting worked to his favour, as Monk hopped off stage and danced with the audience, leading to snowball effect of musical energy. An abundance of smiles could be found following the performance.
