VOLUNTEER DEPARTMENT – “COWS OF TOMORROW”
A SPILL CANADIANย EXCLUSIVE MUSIC PREMIERE
Nashville octet Volunteer Department offers new single about acceptance featuring Jordan Victoria (Heaven Honey). Written/recorded by Oliver Hopkins and mixed by Ben Lumsdaine (Spissy, Kevin Krauter) “Cows of Tomorrow” is a cautionary tale for those who too quickly compromise themselves for the sake of adulation. Warped by mordant imagery, “Cows of Tomorrow” stands as a distant critique on what people will do in order to feel upvoted, to get that little bit of praise from folks they’ll likely never meet, or, simply put: to be liked. Clarity and intention are key in the world of Volunteer Department. Housed in a scrappy but tailored arrangement, Hopkins’ high-in-candor-low-in-bullshit lyrics are afforded the opportunity to sound out clearly and uninhibited, like a horn blown on some windy, forgotten plain. And perhaps someone is tucked away out there already listening, nodding their head or quietly smiling: but, if not, then maybe the echo of Hopkins’ sentiments will act as an invitation to the creative-emotional landscape that Volunteer Department calls home.
Artist Quote
