These days it is becoming quite a rarity that an artist that is coming with a debut release is at least attempting, let alone being able to express a hefty dose of individuality both in song writing and in case of singer (songwriter) Uhl and her starting point EP, Channels.
Through the six songs Uhl presents here, she gives serious reasons why she named this release Channels. It is a series of quite different musical settings through which Uhl is able to present all the variations not only in her songwriting, but even more so in her quite unique vocal capabilities that can range anywhere between Annie Lenox and Kate Bush and touching on some other of her contemporaries like Cate Le Bon and Weyes Blood.
Yet, it is not only Uhl’s vocal capabilities that shine here, her songwriting easily surpasses anything you can find on your average debut and it is truly complemented by some excellent arrangements and production by Peter M. Murray.
