SPILL ALBUM REVIEW: THE FAMILY – DELUSIONS OF GRANDEUR

The Family

THE FAMILY
DELUSIONS OF GRANDEUR
BIG BLACK COW RECORDS

There are so many reasons a band would name itself The Family, with one key reason being that they actually are. In this case, Delusions of Grandeur is a debut by a family, or you could say two families, and known ones at that.

Those listeners that follow closely what is going on in what is often labeled as folk pop/rock are certainly familiar with Dylan LeBlanc, who is a sort of a honcho here, with the band including his son James, along with his wife Angela Hacker and her son Bay Simpson. James and Angela met when the boys were still young, and they grew up together as musicians and as a family.

As it could be expected, there’s a definite family synergy going on here, with all involved being able to instinctively know what the others are doing and the direction in which the music will practically play itself. The result is that smooth folk-rock sound with pop leanings that has been winning listeners from the time Fleetwood Mac epitomised such a sound in the 70s, and it works all over again.
