SPILL ALBUM REVIEW: STARLING – FORGIVE ME

Starling

STARLING
FORGIVE ME
SUNDAY DRIVE RECORDS

What would fall under a category classified as grungy dream pop? Something hard to pin down, for sure, but it seems to be something that a Los Angeles quartet that goes under the name of Starling tries to bring us with their album Forgive Me.

It turns out though that they mix in a bit more than just the hard guitar sound of grunge and sweet vocal harmonies of dream pop, making their sound not so easy to pin down, but certainly making it something quite easy to feed to your ears.

Lead by guitarist/singer Kasha Souter Willett (other members are Erik Sathrum Johnson, Grace Rolek and Gitai Vinshtok) don’t seem to care where they picked up their inspiration from, but seem to have found a way to tie those musical pieces in a neat way, going from very loud to very soft, most often within a single song, with some quite intriguing effect.
