A TRIBUTE TO THE KING OF ZYDECO
VALCOUR RECORDS

In most cases, compilations, particularly tribute albums, tend to be a patchy affair, no matter how many big (and great) artists are featured there. When creating a tribute album, you really have to know the original artists, who of those that are paying the tribute you should include to make sure the results are going to turn into a great, no filler tribute.
So, it is no wonder we get a great one here, because this tribute to Clifton Chenier, known as The King of Zydeco, is in the hands of the specialized Zydeco label from Louisiana, Valcour Records. Not only has the label gathered an absolutely stellar cast here—from The Rolling Stones and Taj Mahal, to Steve Earle, Lucinda Williams, and more, who have all done a brilliant and loving job of tackling Chenier’s music—no frills, a lot of thrills without any experimental excursions, after all, Chenier’s music was a combination of so many things that it was experimental in all the right ways itself. Oh, and you could always dance to it!
