SPILL ALBUM REVIEW: SPECIAL FRIEND – CLIPPING

Special Friend

SPECIAL FRIEND
CLIPPING
SKEP WAX RECORDS

You can try and make a direct comparison to what French/American duo Guillaume Siracusa and Erica Ashleson of Special Friend is doing on Clipping, their second, simply titled album, but at some point, you will either start scratching your head or not have enough fingers to count which artist you think inspired them.

No, on the surface, there’s nothing too complicated about their sound, it actually might sound deceptively simple (usually the most complex thing to do), and you count in here the Sarah Records sound, The Feelies, Stereolab and then keep going until you lose count.

Yet, instead of a musical chaos, Special Friend come up with a unified slice of sophisticated pop that makes you stop counting and keep playing this album over and over again.
