THE TINES
BARROWS
FUNNYBONE RECORDS

You really have to hit the right notes to come up with unmistakeably great melody. And if you get it right once, you are bound to hit it again and again, and come up with an almost perfectly consistent album, whether you are a big-name artist or not.
Now, New Haven, CT band The Tines cannot be classified as a big-name artist (yet), but in their hands and the band’s main man, guitarist/vocalist Sam Carlson, on their second, darkly titled album Barrows, they have come up with a set of 10 almost perfectly-crafted indie folk-tinged songs that have that unmistakeable sound of memory, melancholia, and longing that can only crop up with those artists coming up with their best. And it makes no difference whether you can detect traces of the greats like Nick Drake here, because The Tines also possess a heavy dose of their own personality that makes these songs and this sound their own personal thing.
