GORD DOWNIE, THE SADIES AND THE CONQUERING SUN
LIVE AT 6 O’CLOCK
ARTS & CRAFTS

Back in old 2014, we didn’t realize what we had before it was all unfairly taken from us all to soon. The solid 2014 album And the Conquering Sun and live performances by The Sadies and Gord Downie, were moments in time where the magic of the two Canadian music superpower legends united. Little did we know then, that both Downie and Dallas Good of The Sadies would both sadly pass far ahead of their time.
The magic of The Sadies with Gord Downie on vocals has delicately been captured with Live At 6 O’Clock. A raw, well-blended, live, rocking 8-track album, clocking in at slightly over 30 minutes in length. Downie’s growling, and snarlingly ferocious vocals, in concert with the gritty, thumping, backing instrumentation of The Sadies, is something to behold. Their alt-country punk rock vibe energy is unlike any other live recording involving Downie. It’s loud, abrasive and the energy is explosive.
Six tracks are covers (Roky Erickson, The Who, Neil Young, Fucked Up, The Gun Club, The Stooges) with two originals which can also be heard on “And the Conquering Sun” as studio versions. Highlights of Live At 6 O’Clock include “If You Have Ghosts” (Roky Erickson), “Generation” (Fucked Up), and “Demand Destruction” (original).
Gratefully, The Sadies continue to discover their journey as a trio, playing live gigs regularly. Live At 6 O’Clock is a moment in time and a stark reminder of what we’ve lost in what now seems like an alternate universe. To experience Gord Downie and The Sadies perform live together once again is a genuine treat which cannot be replicated.
