Being vulnerable and introspective is often one of the qualities many listeners look out for in singer songwriters. The problem can be that sometimes such artists go a bit too far in ‘barring the soul’ or become too self-centered in doing it.
Yet, when done properly, and that is certainly one of the harder things to do, presenting your most inner thoughts, particularly if they seem to come from a very personal diary, the music that comes with such an approach can have quite an endearing quality.
That is exactly the case we have here with Annie Blackman’s latest EP Bug. Clear cut, thoughtful melodies and very balanced song arrangements, coupled with some whimsical, layered, and often tongue in cheek lyrics that present us another good poet that sets her poems to music.
Another artist to carefully watch out for.
