SPILL ALBUM REVIEW: WILLIE NELSON – LONG STORY SHORT: WILLIE NELSON 90 LIVE AT THE HOLLYWOOD BOWL

LONG STORY SHORT: WILLIE NELSON 90 LIVE AT THE HOLLYWOOD BOWL
LEGACY RECORDINGS

In celebration of Willie Nelson’s 90th birthday, Legacy Recordings will be releasing Long Story Short: Willie Nelson 90 Live At The Hollywood Bowl on December 15, 2023.

This album is a treasure trove of 52 incredible performances, ranging from Dave MatThews crooning “Funny How Time Slips Away” to Keith Richards belting out “Live Forever.” And let’s not forget Sheryl Crow’s rendition of one of my all-time Willie favorites, “Crazy”.

After listening to a few of the songs, it’s hard not to imagine Willie having a number-one chartbuster on his hands. But wait, there’s more! Willie’s son, Lukas Nelson, delivers a spine-tingling rendition of his father’s song, “Angel Flying Too Close To The Ground.” If you didn’t know any better, you’d swear it was Willie himself singing. And let’s not forget the incredible cover of “Down Yonder” by Norah Jones and the moving vocals by Beck in “Blue Eyes Are Crying In The Rain.”

Get ready for a fun-filled collaboration between Willie and Snoop Dog as they join forces to deliver an enjoyable performance of “Roll Me Up And Smoke Me When I Die.” Prepare yourself for an absolutely delightful time with this one!

However, be prepared to hear some seasoned singers who are definitely not afraid to showcase their mature vocals. Take the legendary Kris Kristofferson, for example – his voice has a certain vintage charm to it. But fear not, because Norah Jones lends her support during their delivery of “Help Me Make It Through The Night.”

You know that saying, “I may be old, but . . .” Well, let me tell you, I have lived long enough to witness the incredible journey of 90-year-old Willie Nelson, who, at his age, has once again become a number-one chart-topper and a true honoree. This LP is an absolute star-studded experience. It has something for everyone and is truly something special.

My love for music and writing has led me to be a music journalist. My favorite music era is the 70s. I want to help save the music from that era, so it is not forgotten, and writing about it helps me do that.
