Rising Appalachia
Live From New Orleans At Preservation Hall
Independent
Sisters Chloe and Leah Smith who are the leading lights behind Rising Appalachia, Americana independents that were able to garner quite a following outside the mainstream music industry, now reside with their bandmates in the ‘usual music spot’ of Nashville.
Still, as Chloe explains, “New Orleans is super special for Leah and me. We lived here for about seven years. It’s our soul home. We learned so much music here and we wrote so much music here.”
That is the way she introduces one of the songs on their latest outing Live From New Orleans at Preservation Hall. It is a performance from January 2021 and neither Rising Appalachia nor Preservation Hall staging events with live audiences. The band was invited to collaborate with the distinguished institution and produce a live-stream concert to bring Rising Appalachia’s signature sound and the spirit of New Orleans into people’s homes around the globe.
As is usually the case with Rising Appalachia, Smith sisters and the band, this time around augmented by Aurora Nealand (clarinet, accordion) and Preservation Hall Jazz Band’s Branden Lewis (trumpet) again come up with a rousing performance that is up to the level of best Americana that they usually reach anyway.
