I’m Glad It’s You play with styles and lyrical themes that have been around for ages. Drawing on influences from within 90s to 00s alternative and college rock they pack a pop-punk washed sound worthy of angst filled teenage headphones. While their style and lyrics may not be particularly unique, the manner in which they express their sound is quite distinguishable.

Since their last EP, Daydreams, I’m Glad It’s You have matured their sound and refined their musicianship. They garnered attention for their slightly unhinged and energetic sound that called to mind the likes of Joyce Manor. On their latest release for 6131 Records, I’m Glad It’s You manage to maintain their original sound whilst filling out their guitar riffs and raucous percussion. After opening the album with a minute and a half of instrumentals you are barraged with hollered and slightly strained vocals expelling words of adolescent woes.

Between their instrumentals and vocals, you find a band that recalls echoes of Posture & The Grizzly’s Busch Hymns. I’m Glad It’s You definitely verge upon Indie territory on tracks like “Small Talk.” Other songs like “Curbside” and “Communion” showcase a band that is capable of emotional and more dynamic songs. Their transitions between chaotic and emotive are quite enjoyable. Within their guitar driven songs, there are many riffs and carefully arranged solos that prove this band has promise and potential.

While I’m Glad It’s You doesn’t present anything particularly revolutionary their latest release certainly shows a clear picture of this band’s intentions and skills. The Things I Never Say is an enjoyably straightforward album with Kelley, TJ, Evan, and Matt effectively exploring their musicianship.
