NEW RELEASE FROM THE BEATLES “DAY TRIPPER (SONGWRITING WORK TAPE)”

SPECIAL EXPANDED EDITION OF RUBBER SOUL OUT OCTOBER 2 ON APPLE/UNIVERSAL MUSIC

Although recorded during the Rubber Soul sessions, “Day Tripper” and “We Can Work It Out” were intended for release as a standalone double A-side single and were kept separate from the album.

Initially based on an “old folk song” John had written the previous month, this version was recorded by John and Paul together at John’s house, Kenwood, in Weybridge, Surrey, and clearly highlights the fun they could have when writing together, breaking down into fits of giggles and laughter. “We were blasting,” John remarked, referring to the high level of sound being captured on tape.

At this stage, the familiar riff associated with the song had yet to be written. The final version was completed during an eight-hour studio session, making this work tape a fascinating insight into both the songwriting process and the enjoyment John and Paul found in working together.
