Milou Moon is Emily McGill’s femme-fronted, bilingual (French/English) dream psych project based in Melbourne/Naarm (AUS) originally from Chicago.

Em came of age in Chicago’s DIY scene and moved to Australia for love in 2016. She’d been building her musical universe in Naarm for a few years, drawing inspiration from Australia’s iconic psych scene, when she met collaborator Leigh Fisher (DOPE LEMON) in 2024. They’ve just produced Milou Moon’s debut record together, with contributions from Simon Mavin (Hiatus Kaiyote) and Adam Halliwell (Mildlife).

‘Like an Adderall,’ out October 9, is the first single from this new body of work, adding dimension to the ethereal, high energy Milou Moon sound. Em spends a few months of the year back home in Chicago, and regularly tours in the US as well as in Australia. With French citizenship adding a third point to her Chicago-Australia axis, Em’s tri-hemispheric life has shaped Milou Moon’s blend of Chicago indie DIY, French whimsy, and Aussie psychedelia.

Milou Moon has released 2 EPs, sold out headline shows in Australia and the US, supported iconic Aussie acts like Velvet Trip, Harmony Byrne and Deep Sea Arcade on tour, and has played at a number of festivals including Hopkins Creek (AUS), Bloomfield Festival (AUS), and Postock (USA). She is signed to ORiGiN Music (Crocodylus, Moby) in Australia and Chicago’s Shuga Records (Twin Peaks, Post Animal) in the US.

In “Like an Adderall”, Naarm-based, Chicago-born psych artist Milou Moon captures the moment a person who once occupied an embarrassing amount of your psychic real estate suddenly doesn’t. What emerges isn’t a breakup song so much as the rush that comes afterwards: the windows-down, my-life-is-a-movie feeling of discovering that somebody has finally lost their power over you.

Produced and written with collaborator Leigh Fisher (DOPE LEMON) with contributions from Simon Mavin (Hiatus Kaiyote), “Like an Adderall” is fast, euphoric, and slightly delirious, pushing Milou Moon’s dreamier psychedelia somewhere more immediate. The result sits somewhere in the technicolour overlap between POND and Men I Trust, yet firmly grounded in Milou Moon’s unique sonic universe.
