IAMX – “INFINITE FEAR JETS {MIMETIC HEXES REWORK}”
A SPILL EXCLUSIVE MUSIC PREMIERE
IAMX premiers a previously unheard track from the upcoming release IAMIXED: Reworks Fault Lines Albums 1 and 2 with Spill Magazine. “Infinite Fear Jets (Mimetic Hexes Rework)” is a collaboration between Chris Corner of IAMX and Toronto-based producer Ryan McCambridge as Mimetic Hexes. The track appears for the very first time on the upcoming digital edition of IAMIXED.
IAMIXED and its companion record UNMASK EP will make their long-awaited transition from physical editions, only available on the 2025 Fault Lines2 tours, to a global audience through streaming and digital download on May 22. Together, the two releases revisit IAMX’s Fault Lines albums, offering both new material and radical reinterpretations. As Corner puts it, “I’ve never been fully convinced by the idea of a final, perfect product… things are never truly complete.”
IAMIXED reimagines the songs from the Fault Lines albums through the lens of artists connected to IAMX. In addition to contributing reworks, McCambridge— a Grammy-nominated engineer—also mastered the album. He mixed both Fault Lines albums and came on as a producer of Fault Lines2.
While Corner typically works alone, McCambridge played a role in bringing the original “Infinite Fear Jets” track to life.
“I approached the original version of the song almost like a remix. I took the vocal ideas Chris had sent, chopped them up, rearranged them and built a melody from those fragments… I wouldn’t say I acted as a lyricist but I did essentially construct the chorus using the ideas Chris had originally provided… I’m immensely proud of it because it’s just such a cool song. It has so much energy. More than anything, I was proud to be able to give something to Chris that he was genuinely impressed with and happy about. Ultimately, he doesn’t need me, so the fact that I could contribute something he valued really meant a lot.”
For his Mimetic Hexes rework, McCambridge takes the track in a different direction. “Because ‘Infinite Fear Jets’ is so high energy, I wondered if I could basically turn it upside-down, into more of a ballad,” he explains. Where the original track pulses with high-tempo intensity, the rework transforms it into a flowing and more ambient form.
Halving the tempo, he preserved Corner’s vocal performance and emphasized its emotional weight. “I have a bit of a different opinion than some people who do remixes, which is that they’re fucking pointless unless you’re going to do something dramatic. I really believe that it’s an opportunity to take a song in a completely different direction,” McCambridge says. “I listen to the essence of the song and then I try my best to find the distant constellation from that.”
Dramatic reinterpretations are at the core of every track on IAMIXED. “I like when people fully reappropriate things and really stamp their mark on it,” Corner explains. The album features a wide range of collaborators connected to the IAMX world, including Holy Braille, Carrellee, and clubdrugs, who’ve all toured with IAMX, as well as emerging artists Damn The Witch Siren and Nigen, whose contributions were selected through a fan remix contest. The album also includes two reworks by IAMX: an orchestral version of “War of Words” and a modular reinterpretation of “In Bondage.”
The companion release, UNMASK EP, offers a more intimate perspective, gathering previously unreleased material from the Fault Lines era. The album debuts two b-sides, “There Will Be Times When I Will Need To Hurt You,” and “Artificial Innocence (UNMASK Mix),” an earlier, more stripped-back version of the recent single. Together, the two albums reflect both the outer experimentation and inner emotional core of the same creative period.
IAMX will perform at festivals across Europe throughout Summer and Fall 2026, including two multi-day events alongside VNV Nation, an appearance at the famed M’Era Luna Festival, headlining Infest, and the project’s first-ever show in Portugal at Extramuralhas.
