TVOD – “POOL HOUSE”
A SPILL EXCLUSIVE VIDEO PREMIERE
Brooklyn-based and self-described as “more of a cult and less of a band,” punk rockers, Television Overdose, or TVOD are equally as entertaining and lively as they are introspective and candid. In anticipation of their debut full-length album Party Time, set to drop on May 9th via Mothland, TVOD is sharing their latest release, “Pool House.” Filmed in a “shitty hotel pool,” in New Jersey, the band describes the track as, “1970’s modern American punk band gets dumped at a pool party.”
“Pool House” captures the timeless heartache of feeling alone at a party, while showcasing the band’s signature less-is-more approach to grooves, gritty guitar parts, clever use of harmonics, and quirky synthesizer tones. These elements are complemented by mellotron arrangements that enhance its epic chorus. With the earworm hook, “All I wanted was a best friend, someone to show around town,” the track delivers a therapeutic release of frustration and anger, all while grappling with an underlying sadness.
Though its title might suggest a straightforward summer banger, the single actually tugs at the heartstrings, telling the story of a romance crumbling under the weight of time. It closes with an astute reel-to-reel ritardando effect, a perfect nod to the song’s emotional depth. All the while, TVOD does what they do best—keeping listeners jamming out, even as they sing about heavy subject matter.
“Pool House” is out April 8th via Mothland.
