TOMBSTONES IN THEIR EYES – “WE ARE GOLD”
A SPILL EXCLUSIVE VIDEO PREMIERE
“We Are Gold” is a song about love, fate, aging and resilience. The “we” in “We Are Gold” refers to my friends, my wife and the other people that I feel like I have a connection with and shared ideals. There’s no way to win at life as a game, but if we look at one another, we are among golden people every day. That’s the point of the lyrics: “There’s nothing we can do to make this all work, “ but nonetheless, “It’s a beautiful life.” β “We have a pretty standard recording process now, and We Are Gold was done in our typical fashion”. The demo is done by John Treanor at his home studio, where most of the guitars are also done, and the results are brought into Kitten Robot Studios and John and Paul Roessler record the vocals on their beautiful vintage Neumann microphone. Then Stephen Striegel and Nic Nifoussi come in to do bass and drums together. After that, any additional guitars, percussion or other instruments are added, as well as backing vocals by John, Paul or Courtney Davies. Then a ton of mixing until the song is just right. “We Are Gold” was done in exactly that way. And now that we have two new guitar players, Paul Boutin and Phil Cobb, they will be coming into the studio to add their guitar parts. – The visualizer, or video, was put together by John Treanor. Since recording and other band costs are so expensive, John has been doing the visuals and learning that process to save some money. We will likely have pro shot videos again soon with all the band members, live stuff, etc. But “We Are Gold” is just a montage of psychedelic clips that we felt suited the song. There’s a lot of gold in there to fit the song.
